BRAMPTON - To commemorate Remembrance Day, two local artists will host an exhibit at Beaux-Arts Brampton to honour the sacrifices of veterans who fought to make the nation free and safe.
Lest We Forget, an art show and sale featuring the works of Kelly McNeil and Terry McNutt, will run in the main gallery from Nov. 3 to 17.
On display will be paintings that demonstrate aspects of war- such as portraits of veterans and cadets, of naval ships and airforce aircrafts, and more. As well, there will be memorabilia on exhibit including a uniform and a hat.
"We're getting older as a nation, and so I guess what we're trying to do is perpetuate some of the history of Canada," said McNutt, a war veteran himself.
McNeil said as soon as word got out about the show, she was commissioned to paint two portraits of retiring legion members- and the works will hang in the Brampton legion after the art show concludes.
"For each piece at the show, there will be a write-up or a story to go with it," McNeil said, to make the art more meaningful.
There will also be a reduced price adjustment for veterans wishing to purchase a piece of art.
The artists are hoping to raise some public awareness on the profound sacrifices veterans have made.
The show runs Nov. 3 to 17 with a reception running Nov. 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. with a special reading by Marnie Richards, and members of the Lorne Scots corps in attendance.
