BRAMPTON - In communities across Canada, St. John Ambulance is celebrating 125 years of helping Canadians improve their health, safety and quality of life by providing community services and first aid training.
Now, with more than 22,000 volunteers, St. John Ambulance is one of Canada's leading charities and largest volunteer-based organizations. To mark the occasion, a St. John Ambulance flag raising takes place at City Hall on Monday at 10 a.m. celebrating 45 years of service to Brampton and the agency’s 125th National Anniversary in Canada.
These volunteers, together with 6,000 first aid instructors and 470 employees, offer a level of dedication and service that is best measured in the million lives that are touched each year and by two million hours of volunteer time devoted to communities across Canada.
Everyday there are stories about how the programs of St. John Ambulance have changed lives, made communities stronger and safer, and helped ordinary people do extraordinary things.
Order of St. John
As a charitable organization, whose roots are embedded in the strength of volunteers, the Order of St. John is an outstanding honour bestowed upon volunteer members who live the St. John mission.
History
St. John Ambulance has a rich history and tradition in caring for people in Canada for over 125 years, but St. John’s history dates back over 900 years. St. John Ambulance Brampton has been serving the community for more than 40 years.
Mission, Vision and Values
The Mission: To enable Canadians to improve their health, safety and quality of life by providing training and community service.
They carry out the mission through community service, and first aid, and CPR training.
Community Services volunteers include uniformed members who serve communities across Canada, providing first aid and emergency response support, as well as improving the quality of life for people confined to a health care facility through the therapy dog visitation program.
Their volunteers contribute millions of hours to Canadian communities each year.
First aid and CPR training comprises instructors, volunteers and staff who provide high-quality first aid training and products.
Under the guidance of a network of medical and health care professionals, St. John Ambulance is the national leader, setting the standard for training in first aid, CPR and other lifesaving skills.
