Gun used in shootout with police used to murder Brampton teen days earlier

BRAMPTON - The gun used to kill a Brampton teen was also used in a shootout between Peel police officers and a car theft suspect two weeks later, tests have confirmed. Caledon OPP say Ariel Besley, 18, was shot and his body left on the side of Old School Road near the Brampton Fairgrounds in Caledon in early May. He was last seen by his family May 10 and his body was found May 15. On May 25, Roy Terrence Rousseau, 23, of Brampton was shot in the leg and chest during a shootout with Peel police in the area of Bovaird Drive and Hwy. 10. Police spotted a stolen SUV in the parking lot of a motel, and when they tried to question a man in one of the rooms, he ran to a nearby field and into an industrial complex about 1/2 km away. It was in the empty parking lot of a nearby industrial plaza that gunfire was exchanged. Officers were uninjured, but Rousseau was taken to hospital with the two non-life threatening gunshot wounds. The gun seized at the scene was sent for testing at the Centre of Forensic Sciences to find out if it had been used in the commission of any other offences. It recently came back as a match for the weapon that killed Besely. Police say the gun was smuggled into Canada from the U.S. The OPP’s murder investigation has expanded to several other Ontario cities, including Hamilton, Shelburne and Owen Sound. Police say information from the public has been helpful so far, but they are still asking for more tips. Anyone with information is asked to call the Major Crime Unit, Det. Const.
