Pay it forward at Santa Claus Parade

BRAMPTON - This year, The Canadian Progress Club Brampton, with the support of RE/MAX Realty Services Inc. and the Brampton Guardian, are launching a challenge to the Brampton Community to Pay It Forward.

Now more than ever, we need everyone who can afford to donate to attend this year’s Santa Claus Parade and make a contribution to the Salvation Army’s annual Christmas Food Drive.

For the past 18 years, the Canadian Progress Club of Brampton has entered a float in the Santa Claus Parade and has been one of the major collectors of food for the Salvation Army’s holiday campaign.

Over the years, the food collected has amassed to 70,000 lbs. In the past few years, cash donations of $4,500 have also been collected along the parade route.

This money is typically used to buy baby food, formula and diapers. Such items are in great need, however; they don’t usually get donated to the food banks.

The Salvation Army then distributes these items to 15 other local organizations in our community that provide assistance.

Gordon Randell of the Salvation Army advised that the need is even greater at this time of year— especially in these difficult economic times.

The number of families who are relying on local food banks has increased to 35 families a day, 205 new families a week and 820 families a month.

Come on out and bring the family to a festive Christmas tradition and help make a difference in your neighbour’s life.

Brampton’s Santa Claus Parade takes place on Saturday, Nov. 21 beginning at 5 p.m. and runs from the intersection of Main Street and Sproule Drive south on Main Street through downtown Brampton.

This wonderful night time parade is filled with lights, festive floats, marching bands and, of course, Santa himself.
