SMOKIN' CALENDAR NIGHT: Tickets are now on sale for the annual Brampton Fire Smokin' Calendar Night, Sept. 5 and 6, Chinguacousy Curling Club, which raises funds for charity. The show is a 19 and over event. For tickets, which are $25, call 905-874-2800 or purchase at the door.

CHILDREN'S HEALTH FESTIVAL: The Justine Blainey Wellness Centre will host the third annual Children's Health Festival for Child Find Ontario at 22 Wexford Rd., from 1 to 4 p.m.. This event is designed to promote child health, wellness and safety, and will feature face painting, a bouncy castle, a fun activity circuit and appearances by many favourite cartoon characters. NATURE FIELD TRIP: South Peel Naturalists' Club will hold a field trip to Toronto Islands. Migrating birds including warblers, shorebirds and hawks are the focus of this trip. There is a charge for the ferry and parking at the ferry terminal. Dress appropriately for the weather and bring lunch, drinking water, and binoculars. Be prepared for a very long, but easy walk. WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10

AIDS SPEAKER: Stephen Lewis Foundation's Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign speaker at Emmanuel United Church, 420 Balmoral Drive, Brampton, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Carolyn Nixon spends her winters working with Zulu nurses in South Africa, at an AIDS Centre, helping with the Grannies and orphans as well as other AIDS sufferers. She will show pictures and talk about her experiences in the sanctuary. All are welcome to attend. A free will offering will be taken to help offset expenses for the evening, with excess going to this charity.

 

LORNE SCOTS REGISTRATION: Brampton's 556 Lorne Scots Army Cadets Corps will hold open registration every Wednesday in September at the Brampton Armouries, 12 Chapel St., 6:30 p.m. Army Cadets is open to youth ages 12 to 18 years. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: A volunteer information session will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. at 268 Rutherford Rd S., unit 3. We are looking for volunteers to join our committees. We need people with knowledge on real estate issues, residential construction details, loan underwriting, family issues, fund development, community development, energy, green and non-profit law among others. Volunteers are also needed to help with daily operations of the ReStore. We encourage high school students to earn their community hours working after school or on Saturdays.
