BRAMPTON -
Georgetown southern gospel music fans will soon get a chance to see some of the finest the genre has to offer at a concert in memory of Georgetown native, Dan Lane. The event will feature popular groups “Greater Vision” and the “Browns”. The concert is the sixth annual concert in honour of Lane, a southern gospel enthusiast who passed away in 2002 at the age 31 after a battle with cancer. “This concert is to remember Dan but also to enjoy a night of gospel music,” said Lane’s father, Gary Lane, whose family is organizing the concert. “We expect laughter, tears and a night of great entertainment from these two groups.” The concert will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 31 at Georgetown Christian Reformed Church on Trafalgar Road. Lane’s family will donate the proceeds to Georgetown District Christian School, which is the only interdenominational Christian school in Halton Hills. Greater Vision’s appearance in Georgetown will be one of the group’s 200 concerts performed this year, but one of their very rare visits to Canada. The group’s busy schedule will see them perform in Ohio the day before the Georgetown event and in Indianapolis the next day. The Browns are one of Southern Gospel’s best-known family groups, featuring a mother and her four children, ranging in age from 11 to 22. Their performance includes their voices joined by incredible violin talent. The Georgetown concert will be the Brown’s only stop in Canada this year. Tickets for the concert are $25 and available through Gary Lane at 905-873-7565, or through Georgetown District Christian School at 905-877-4221.
