BREAKING NEWS— Woman attacked and murdered on Church Street Monday December 1 2008

On Sunday at 12:04 a.m., police responded to a 911 call to an address on Church Street, in Brampton. 

Upon arrival, a 36 year-old woman was found with life threatening injuries.  The victim was rushed to an area hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
 
The victim has been identified as Loretta Lavalley from Brampton.
 
A suspect was arrested at the scene and charged with Break and Enter, Forcible Confinement, Aggravated Sexual Assault and Attempt Murder.  He will be appearing in court on Tuesday, Dec. 2 where it is expected he will be formally charged with First Degree Murder. 

His name will not be released until that time.
 
A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Tuesday.

Region to recognize persons with disabilities on Dec. 3 Friday November 28 2008

A society's success is measured, in part, by how readily accessible things like education, medicine and employment are to people.

But many in Canada, and around the world, struggle everyday to maneuver around what most take for granted.

Entering a bank, riding an elevator and even getting from one end of a city to the other can be a real challenge for people living with disabilities.

For years, the disabled have fought hard for inclusiveness and to be given the opportunity to fully participate in society.

To help mark that struggle, the region will recognize Dec. 3 as International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) in Peel.

This day coincides with the United Nations-recognized IDPD, which aims to mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well being of persons with disabilities.
