In regards to the letter by A. Salvalaggio in the Oct. 22 Brampton Guardian.
I could not agree more that crime in our city is not going away. I believe our politicians and the police force have sent the message loud and clear ... the community needs to pull together and assist where possible.
The unfortunate murder of Ravi Dharamdial rings home to me because I believe Brampton lost a rising star who would have made a positive contribution to the city and beyond.
To address the rising crime/violence in Peel, police Chief Mike Metcalf has released a five point action plan.
I encourage all residents of Brampton read this action plan as we can all play a role.
Please take a few moments from your daily routine to write our provincial and federal members of parliament requesting the immediate release of necessary funds for the Peel police to hire the additional officers Peel needs.
Additional police is only part of the solution. Residents need to get more involved through community meetings, letters to the Brampton Safe City Association and bring together a cross-section of people in the community to meet with political leaders to deal with crime and youth violence.
I encourage all residents of Brampton to do your part to work with the police and local politicians on this growing issue in our city.
