Nursing homes not meeting standards
By Peter Criscione, Staff Writer - The Brampton Guardian
Friday July 4 2008
BRAMPTON - All of Brampton's nursing homes have been reprimanded at least once for failing to meet provincially mandated standards of care.

Provincial inspection reports analyzed by The Canadian Press found three-quarters of the 616 nursing homes across Ontario have been cited for violating provincial standards that ensure residents are well fed, clean and free of pain.

Eleven Brampton nursing homes combined for 105 violations in 2007, according to the CP findings.

Officials found more than half of the problems had to do with the quality of care seniors receive, with the rest pointing to things like the administration of drugs and documentation.

Among the homes cited is Tullamore nursing home— located at 133 Kennedy Rd., South, just south of Queen Street East— where inspectors reported 16 residents...

Man, 31, gunned down at Canada Day eve party
By Roger Belgrave, Staff Writer - The Brampton Guardian
Friday July 4 2008
BRAMPTON - Homicide investigators are appealing for the public's help in finding the killer of a 31-year-old Brampton man shot dead at a crowded Canada Day eve party.

Glenford Asan Reid was pronounced dead at the scene of the Monday night shooting where more than 100 partygoers had gathered at the south Brampton home. A 37-year-old Toronto man was also injured by gunfire that rang out at the Woodsend Run house, but sustained wounds considered non-life threatening and is expected to make a full recovery.
Despite a packed house of revelers, police have had "minimal cooperation" from potential witnesses, said Peel Regional Police Insp. Norm English. Many of the partygoers fled before police arrived.
Investigators have so far been unable to establish a motive or gather any suspect information, English said.
Police were...
