BRAMPTON - Peel Region has set up a new toll-free telephone number that will aim to connect people with support groups and other services.
Street Helpline Peel has launched the new number 1-877-848- 8481 enabling clients to call without charge from any phone in Central and Southern Ontario.
Dialing the number will connect callers to the Region's Customer Contact Centre, which will provide information directly or connect callers to the appropriate supports.
Street Helpline Peel is part of the region's outreach program for families and individuals and is a collaborative effort between Peel's Health and Human Services departments, the Canadian Mental Health Association, St. Leonard's Place Peel, Peel Addiction Assessment and Referral Centre, and Catholic Cross Cultural Services.
The various agencies provide assistance in a broad range of services including: food, clothing, blankets, and mental health and addiction supports.
Referral and advocacy is also available for: housing, emergency shelter, medical care and employment.
