BRAMPTON - Do you think you know how to navigate your way in a wheelchair? It’s not as easy as it might look— but it can be fun, particularly when it supports a local cause.
Silver Cross Brampton and Wallis for Wellness are co-sponsoring the Spirit Sprint for MS fundraiser, a wheelchair obstacle course and family event happening Saturday, Aug. 2 at the Brampton Farmers’ Market.
“We want to combine fun and education with raising money for a local cause,” said Margaret Wallis of Wallis for Wellness.
The event will include a wheelchair obstacle course/relay race for teams of four. Each team will have to raise a minimum of $100 to enter the race. Individuals or organizations that don’t want to race can also sponsor a team that Wallis will put together. Silver Cross will provide wheelchairs for the race.
Along with the obstacle course, event organizers have lined up a full slate of activities for family fun. There will be music and entertainment, face painting and tattoos for kids, in-chair massages and a free assisted devices tune-up clinic.
As well, participants in the race, as well as supporters at the sidelines, will have many opportunities to win a variety of high-end prizes throughout the day from the Rose Theatre, Jake’s Boathouse, Home Depot, the Toronto Blue Jays and more.
Wallis hopes to see a tremendous turnout at the event, which will support the Brampton chapter of the MS Society of Canada.
“It’s important to note that you don’t have to be linked to multiple sclerosis… but there will probably be a time in your life when you will be affected by this disease,” she said. “We’re putting a challenge out there to other businesses, to the city, to put some teams together and help raise some money.”
To register a team, for more information, or to purchase raffle tickets to support the cause, call Wallis for Wellness at 905-840-3486 or Silver Cross at 905-789-1350.
