BRAMPTON - When you can’t find your glasses or forget someone’s name— don’t panic. Complaints of memory loss can be a normal part of aging.
Alzheimer’s disease is not. It is a progressive disease, not simply a part of old age.
Ultimately it affects all aspects of a person’s life— how they think, feel and act. Symptoms vary with each person as does how quickly the disease progresses. The Alzheimer’s Foundation, a new group in Canada, recently released results of an Ipsos survey, done in June with 1,390 adults between ages of 40 and 60, reporting that 6 in 10 aging baby boomers have experienced some short term memory loss in the past year.
About 69 per cent of these said they would be interested in memory screening and the foundation plans to hold a national screening day in November with memory screening booths set up in pharmacies across Canada. For more information on Alzheimer’s disease you can visit www.alzheimer.ca or call the local Alzheimer Society of Peel at 905-792-1319.
Brampton Library offers current resources that can answer questions you may have or increase your knowledge about all aspects of Alzheimer’s disease. Visit www.bramptonlibrary.ca
