Salvation Army food bank’s cupboard is bare

BRAMPTON - Brampton's Salvation Army Food Bank is calling out to the public to help fill their bare shelves and empty food crates.
According to Major Kathie Sharpe, the low quantities of food are quickly putting the food bank and Brampton residents into dire need.
"We are in desperate need," said Sharpe. "Every day we have at least four or five new clients and add that to the 30 to 35 clients we already serve a day. Than multiply that by the number of family members each client is providing for."
According to Sharpe, donations are commonly lower during the summer months.
"We usually do a Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter drive, but then we have that five month gap in between."
The food bank is especially feeling the pinch now with Easter falling earlier this year.
Sharpe cites canned vegetables, meat and fish, cereal and drinks such as water and juices as the items most needed now, but all donations will be accepted.
Donations can be dropped off at all Sobey's, A&P and Food Basics locations as well as at fire stations across the city.
