The city plans to resurface 65 streets this year, and major reconstruction will be done on nine other roads. The city's 2008 budget earmarked $69.5 million for road, bridge and sidewalk reconstruction and resurfacing.
This year's list of roadwork isn't expected to cause too much disruption to motorists. No major long-term road closures are expected, except for the ongoing closure of Creditview Road and Churchville Road for sewer work.
One short-term closure is coming up May 5 when a very short stretch of McVean Drive-- from Cottrelle Boulevard south to Huntspoint Drive-- will be off-limits as the Region of Peel does watermain work and installs two catch basins. The closure will last just three days, through May 8.
The only other road closures expected are already in effect: Creditview Road from Churchville Road to Eldorado Park has been closed for several weeks now and will not re-open until the end of the summer. The road is open to local traffic only as work continues on the Credit Valley Trunk Sewer project. The same trunk sewer project has Churchville Road shut down for the same time period from Steeles Avenue to Creditview Road.
The major road projects, which could cause limited lane reductions at times (through traffic will continue), are as follows:
* Wanless Road between McLaughlin Road and Hwy. 10-- road widening;
* Heritage Road from Steeles Avenue to the south city limit-- road widening including bridge over Hwy. 407 ETR;
* Castlemore Road between McVean Drive and Gore Road-- road widening including two bridges;
* Torbram Road between Countryside Drive and Sandalwood Parkway--road widening;
* Bramalea Road between Countryside Drive and Sandalwood Parkway-- road widening:
