A U.S. plastic container manufacturer has decided to close the doors to its Brampton facility, putting about 90 people out of work. Ball Corp. announced plans to close its Brampton plastics plant by the end of September. The Colorado-based company anticipates that by closing the plant it will save approximately $4 million annually. Employees will receive severance and outplacement services. Ball acquired the Brampton plant, which makes plastic food bottles, in 2006. Production of materials manufactured in Brampton will be consolidated into the company's other plastic packaging manufacturing facilities in North America. Ball Corporation is a supplier of metal and plastic packaging for beverage, food and household products customers. It also manufactures for the aerospace and other technologies and services, primarily for the U.S. government. Ball Corporation and its subsidiaries employ more than 15,500 people worldwide and reported sales of approximately $7.4 billion in 2007.
