Peel police are hunting for three men after a husband and wife were shot through the door of a home on Muirland Crescent Tuesday afternoon.
The 51-year-old man and 48-year-old woman were reportedly hit in the legs as bullets peppered the door just after 4:30 p.m. They were treated in hospital and later released.
Police found shell casings littering the driveway and bullet holes in the door as they approached the scene. When the first officer arrived at the scene, the frightened occupants of the home refused to answer his knock on the door, worried the gunmen had returned.
Several witnesses on the street, east of Chinguacousy Road and south of Bovaird Drive, told police they think three men escaped in a car that looked like a Lexus. However, investigators said they are not certain the car witnesses described was the getaway car, or was just in the area at the time.
One neighbour told police she saw a man run down the driveway of the house, tucking a gun down his pants, after the shots were fired
Police would not reveal a motive behind the shooting. Detectives with 22 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau are asking anyone with information to call them at 905-453-2121, ext. 2233, or Peel Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
