Arrests made in killing of 16-year-old
Wednesday September 10 2008
By PAM DOUGLAS
Peel police have arrested and charged two Brampton men this week in connection with last month’s shooting death of 16-year-old Alex Masih.

Tristan Francis, 20, was arrested Tuesday by Peel police and charged with second-degree murder. On Wednesday, police arrested and charged Alvin Boyce, 26, and also charged him with second-degree murder.

Masih was found shot near a Collins Crescent townhouse complex at 12:35 a.m. August 9. Police were called to the scene, in the area of Kennedy Road and Williams Parkway, on reports of the sound of gunshots.

Police are still working on the case and have not revealed a motive for the murder.

Francis and Boyce will appear in court today. Police did not say if Masih knew either man.
Masih’s family said they believe he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but were confident that Peel police homicide investigators would track down the killers.

“Alex was my pride and joy and everything that I lived for. Why would anyone do such a horrifying thing to such a nice kid?” Alex Masih’s grieving dad, Caneth, said just days after the shooting.
Masih was a student at Central Peel Secondary School and was to begin Grade 11 studies next month. He spent the day Friday with his father at work, helping out, and went out that night, according to his family. He was just two streets away from home when he was shot dead.
Masih was born in Toronto, but grew up in Brampton. He had only just moved with his family to the central Brampton neighbourhood last November. Although he was new to the neighbourhood, he had plenty of friends from school and was remembered by many as a teen with a sense of humour and a quick smile.

He loved to play basketball, according to his father, and even coached other kids at his school.
His family and friends describe him as a big-hearted teen who always had a smile and would do anything to help others. He aspired to become an accountant.

Anyone with information to help the ongoing investigation is asked to call the Homicide Bureau at 905-453-3311, ext. 3205, or Peel Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
