A Manitoba company was chosen this week to supply the City of Brampton with 60 AcceleRide buses at a cost of close to $20 million.
The three-year contract was awarded to New Flyer Industries Canada by city councillors this week, one of only two companies that submitted a bid.
The mostly 40 foot buses will use hybrid technology- clean diesel-electric. Some of the buses will be 60-foot articulated vehicles.
The first 20 to 25 buses will be delivered in May 2010 for the September 2010 launch of AcceleRide on Queen Street from the downtown core to the eastern border of the city.
The second phase in 2011 will put the rapid transit buses on Main Street and the third in 2012 will see AcceleRide extended to Steeles Avenue.
