A Good Samaritan was stabbed to death when he tried to prevent the killing of a woman during an apparent domestic dispute at a Brampton plaza this afternoon.
Police were called to the plaza, in the McLaughlin Road and Williams Parkway area, around 12:25 p.m. A woman and a man had been fighting, and the man appears to have stabbed the woman, police said. When a passer-by tried to intervene, it appears the man stabbed him as well, before trying to take his own life, police said.

Current plans to extend Hwy. 427 a few kilometres further north doesn't go far enough to address the region's long-term needs, Peel councillors told provincial planners recently.
Highway planners Michael Chiu and Dean Kemper provided councillors with an update on a strategy to expand Hwy. 427 along Peel's eastern boundary.
The current blue print proposes to extend the highway along the western edge of York Region, from Queen Street East in the south (just east of Hwy. 50) to Major Mackenzie Drive in the north.
Although the project is only in the environmental assessment and planning stages regional politicians, including Brampton Mayor Susan Fennell, argued the plan not only falls short with respect to distance but also lacks a long-term vision.

The City of Brampton makes no apologies for having the highest development charges in the GTA.
"We are in step with what other GTA municipalities are doing," said city spokesperson Gordon Smith. "We all face the same issues, particularly in dealing with growth and infrastructure, and making sure we have the revenue streams to be able to properly address growth."
Development charges are a crucial revenue source for funding the cost of new community centres, transit and libraries, he said. If growth doesn't pay for itself through development charges, then the cost falls to the property tax bills.
A report released this week by the Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD), concludes Brampton adds $35,398 in development charges to the cost of a new single-family home when it is...
