BRAMPTON - BRAMPTON –The City of Brampton today began renovating and expanding Century Gardens Recreation Centre on Vodden Street, making improvements that will help meet the future healthy lifestyle needs of the community.
“The new and improved Century Gardens will be an important accomplishment for City Council and a great community project for central Brampton,” said Regional Councillor Elaine Moore. “The City looks forward to opening the doors to ‘a whole new Century’ in fall 2008.”
When Century Gardens Recreation Centre reopens, visitors will enjoy modernized community rooms; improvements to the auditorium and fitness area; a refreshed pool with larger change room spaces; a second ice rink and revitalized first rink; a new lobby, common space area, front entrance and expanded parking areas.
“City staff worked closely with all groups who use Century Gardens to make sure that everyone could continue their activities at nearby City recreation centres,” said Regional Councillor Grant Gibson.
The City of Brampton has worked with families, sports groups, community groups and program groups who usually use Century Gardens Recreation Centre to ensure access to rental space, recreation services, aquatics, fitness, skating and hockey will be available at alternative neighbourhood recreation centres within the community.
“The renovation and expansion of Century Gardens is part of a City-wide initiative to provide high-quality, and responsive recreation facilities and programs to everyone in Brampton,” said Brampton Mayor Susan Fennell. “This is part of the City’s focus on creating healthy and active lifestyle opportunities for people of all ages.”
The Making Great Things Happen brings to citizens two new community centres and two renovated and expanded recreation centres as part of a $120 million capital program. Other projects are well underway:
• In June 2007, the new Brampton Soccer Centre will open at Dixie Road and Sandalwood Parkway
• Later in the summer, Earnscliffe Recreation Centre on Eastbourne Drive will reopen its doors to the community following an expansion and extensive renovations
• The new Cassie Campbell Community Centre at Sandalwood Parkway and Chinguacousy Road will open in fall 2008
