BRAMPTON – To celebrate 100 years of Scouting in Canada, Scouts Canada – Brampton Area will hold its Camp of the Century at Donald M. Gordon Chinguacousy Park from June 15 to 17.
This event is one of several being hosted by Scouting to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Scouting in the World. Other events including a World Jamboree being held in England with 40,000 youth and adults attending and a Canadian Jamboree held in Quebec with over 8,000 participants. Several other local Councils and Area activities are also scheduled.
“We are pleased to host this major Scouting event at the City’s beautiful Donald M. Gordon Chinguacousy Park,” said City Council Sandra Hames, Chair of Community Services matters for the City. “This is a great community partnership that links well with the other family activities at the park.”
Almost 500 Scouts and Leaders are expected to participate in the Brampton event. The Scouts will hold daytime activities for the community and then put their community values to the test by working over the weekend to preserve the park.
Since its early beginning in 1907, Scouting has followed the same basic principles, giving Canadian youth opportunities for adventure and fun while instilling values of teamwork and community service. More than 25 million youths, adults, boys and girls take part in Scouting programs in 216 countries and territories worldwide. Brampton has 18 Scouting groups for both youth and adults to take part in, helping to strengthen community relations and respect.
Donald M. Gordon Chinguacousy Park is a 100-acre citywide park that hosts a variety of family-oriented events to bring the community together. Some of the events include the annual winter WingDingInChing, Canada Day celebrations and the NittyGrittyBramaChingWingDing held in the summer.
