Mississauga – Investigators from the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau would like to remind citizens to be vigilant in maintaining personal safety while in the community.
On Thursday, June 26, 2008, at about 9:00 a.m., the victim, a 29 year old Mississauga woman, was walking in the area of Airport Road and Slough Street in Malton. She was approached by the suspect, who then knocked her to the ground and stole her purse. The victim received minor injuries for which she was treated in hospital.
The suspect is described as male, black, 20 years of age, 6’ tall and 180 lbs. He is described as having a medium build and was seen wearing dark pants, and a white shirt with a black bandana on his head.
An investigation is being conducted into similar incidents that have occurred in the Malton area in recent weeks. As a result, investigators are reminding residents of the following safety tips:
Be aware of surroundings at all times.
Plan the route; avoid shortcuts through parks, vacant lots or unlit areas.
Avoid being alone if possible.
Don’t carry a purse; use a waist belt instead.
If someone grabs your purse, do not resist.
