Peel – A dinner planned for Friday, October 17, 2008, hosted by a popular Mississauga Chinese restaurant, will raise funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (J.D.R.F.). This year, well known Canadian comic Mike Bullard will act as Master of Ceremonies.

 

Hosted by Mr. Ken Choi and Mr. Lawrence Lo, owners of Summit Garden Chinese Restaurant, the evening will include a silent auction, along with entertainment provided by the Dan Bodanis Band. Funds raised from the auction will be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. J.D.R.F. representatives will be on hand to address the audience in order to bring awareness about this disease and ongoing research.

 

Today, even with the availability of insulin, it is estimated that approximately one-half million North Americans die each year as a result of diabetes and its complications. These include; heart and kidney disease, stroke, blindness and amputation. The J.D.R.F. was founded in 1970, by parents of children with juvenile diabetes. Sadly, the life expectancy of a child with type 1 diabetes is shortened by 15 years.

 

Last year, Peel Police raised over $75,000 for this worthwhile cause. The generosity of both individuals and corporate sponsors will help fund diabetes research. It also enables the J.D.R.F. to advocate for federal support of diabetes research in the effort to find a cure.
