Peel Police - Project 'Yellow Bus' Wraps Up with Big Results

BRAMPTON -

Mississauga – 11 Division’s Neighbourhood Policing Unit completed Project Yellow Bus, a three day enforcement driven campaign, on Friday, October 10th. This initiative was in conjunction with Operation Impact, a national coordinated effort between police agencies across the country, working towards the goal of making Canada’s roads the safest in the world.

Officers focused their attention on school zones and community safety zones, and the results were astounding. The following charges were laid:

Highway Traffic Act Charges                            460

Highway Traffic Act Cautions                           464

Disobey School Bus                                         13

The most disturbing figure in these statistics is the number of citizens who failed to stop for school buses. It is vitally important that citizens stop and obey the red signal lights that are flashing when a school bus is stopped. This allows children to be safely off-loaded and cross the road, when necessary. Also of note, a female driver was stopped while driving through a school zone, with both hands off the steering wheel. She was applying make-up as she drove.

Peel Regional Police would like to remind the public that road safety is a shared responsibility that starts with the citizens and residents of the Region of Peel.
