Peel Police - Uniform Officer Attacked

BRAMPTON -

Mississauga – Investigators from Peel Regional Police’s 12 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau are seeking witnesses to a violent attack on a Peel Police officer.

 

On Sunday, November 16, 2008, at approximately 1:00 a.m., the victim, a uniform officer with 2 years experience, was conducting routine patrol in the area of Helene Street North, just north of Lakeshore Road East, in Mississauga.

 

At this time the victim officer was attacked from behind while he was entering his police vehicle. The accused, Arenije GAVRILOVIC, a 23 year-old resident of Mississauga, struck the officer several times with a baseball bat. Fortunately, the victim officer was able to defend himself and subdue the suspect until fellow officers arrived to assist with arresting the suspect.

 

The victim officer was treated in hospital for minor bruising and scrapes. He has since been released from the hospital.

 

Arenije GAVRILOVIC has been charged with Attempt Murder and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Sunday, November 16, 2008.
