BRAMPTON - Brampton’s Laura Muzzatti has been honoured by Fordham University (Bronx, N.Y.) with the school’s Kiwanis Community Service Award.
The members of Fordham Kiwanis, made up of university faculty, staff and administrators, wish to recognize student-athletes who not only excel in academics and their respective sports but was are also committed to community service activities.
Muzzatti, was a four-year member of the women’s soccer team who excelled on and off the field. Away from the pitch she has been involved in an initiative for the Global Aids Campaign, which raised funds through a 3-on-3 basketball tournament held at Fordham and served as secretary for the student-athlete advisory committee, helping plan a number of events through the year.
She has also been involved with the Union Community Health Center and the Reach Out and Read Program.
On the pitch, the senior captain started all 20 games in the backfield for the Rams, helping Fordham post a single season best 0.84 goals against average that included seven shutouts.
Muzzatti, a former member of the Ontario provincial team and a captain with St. Augustine Secondary School, has been a starter since her freshman year at Fordham.
A biological sciences major she appeared in every game as a freshman, making 17 starts. As a sophomore she was one of seven Rams to appear in every game and made 17 starts. In her junior year she was named a team co-captain and was one of three Rams to start all 21 games.
